Hearts of Iron 2 (HoI2) was originally released in 2005, and has gone through various versions and expansions. Paradox makes significant changes to gameplay in these version changes, thus an "out of date" wiki article may not be useful for a more current version of the game. All articles on the Wiki strive to have content that accurately depicts the differences between all major game versions. The Wiki contains four major templates to track how up to date a particular article is:

Hearts of Iron 2, version 1.3 The original game had a series of patches that ended with version 1.3. Articles with this label only address the original game.

This article is accurate for HoI2 Doomsday, version 1.3.

Hearts of Iron 2, Doomsday version 1.3 Doomsday (HoI2 DD) is a stand-alone expansion for Hearts of Iron 2, released in 2006. This game also had a series of patches that ended with version 1.3. Articles with this label only address Doomsday.

This article is accurate for HoI2 Armageddon, version 1.2.

Hearts of Iron 2, Armageddon version 1.2 Armageddon (HoI2 ARMA) is an expansion for Doomsday, released in 2007. This game had a series of patches that ended with version 1.2. Articles with this label only address Armageddon.

This article is accurate for the latest versions of HoI2 Anthology (HoI2 v1.3, DD v1.3, Arma. v1.2).

Hearts of Iron Anthology Anthology is sold as a game that includes the original Hearts of Iron, Hearts of Iron 2, Doomsday, and Armageddon. For the purpose of this Wiki, articles with this label address all major version of the Hearts of Iron 2 game (e.g. HoI2 v1.3, DD v1.3, and ARMA v1.2).
