Look at CAG in v1.1 the MP cost has increased and also the build time.
- I haven't had time to update the statistics-pages for 1.1 yet, but hope to do so this evening. Rafiki 12:16, 11 Jan 2005 (CET)

Image use policy
Just a suggestion, Currently the Image Use Policy page has nothing on it. You might consider using that page to make better known that swastikas aren't allowed due to the wiki being linked on the forums, along with other guidelines and suggestions. It's also linked to by the File Upload page. - Anonymous
Search Function
Hey Rafiki- did you notice the search function seems to be broken here? if you look at the top, it says the search for "" failed or somesuch. not sure if you were aware.
- Ringworm 00:55, 13 Jan 2005 (CET)
- I'll look into it, but might not have time till tomorrow for anything in-depth

Database Error
Rafiki- could you check out this history of [1] and see what's up? i added the category yesterday, but the window just hung there (i noticed the site was REALLY slow beforehand) and then i timed out. now it has an error there. it also saved the change, but it's not showing up in the recent changes. thanks! Setting up own wiki
Hey Rafiki, I'm interested in setting up my own wiki for other purposes. I'm wondering, how did you set up yor wiki and where did you download it from? XieChengnuo 20:22, 24 May 2005 (CEST)
- I downloaded the wiki software from http://wikipedia.sourceforge.net/ and basically followed the steps outlined in the installation guide. You'll need a database that you can use (not sure if it has to be MySQL, but I think so) – Rafiki (talk) (help)[[]] 06:40, 25 May 2005 (CEST)
I have MySQL and a Linux server, is that all good?
Name
Change it to Zogslayer or Colorcrayon if you think my name is offensive. Analrapeofthechrist 11:05, 19 Aug 2005 (CEST)
- It's changed to "Colorcrayon". I can't see how you thought your former name would NOT be taken offensively – Rafiki (talk) (help)[[]] 13:58, 19 Aug 2005 (CEST)
Source info for Knowledge Base?
Why do some of the links in the knowledge base have "from CORE" behind them? As the other links don't have sources, this doesn't seem to be consequent. I suggest to delete this naming of the source, especially as none of the linked pages seems to have any relation to CORE. --Zanza 20:16, 30 Aug 2005 (CEST)
- Truth be told, I don't know for sure. My guess is that the link was originally posted at the CORE forums/site and that linking back to CORE for those links is an acknowledgement for that. I guess the people who have posted this should voice an opinion? In any case, acknowledgement of sources is A Good Thing, but so is consistency. I.e. I don't really have a very strong opinion in either direction. – Rafiki (talk) (help)[[]] 21:43, 30 Aug 2005 (CEST)
- That's exactly what was happening, Rafiki is right, and I put in the CORE's, because that's where I got the link from. I don't really mind either way, if you want to do that then go ahead, I just thought it would be prudent to tell people where I got the link from. I don't want to step on any toes.
volunteering for service
Hi Rafiki, I finally thought to contribute to this wiki project. You might have noticed it, this site lacks style. And basic copyedit. So I'm volunteering my service for this. I'm not so good at writing strategy guides, but I have experience with wiki-markup and style. But first, we need to refurbish the Main Page. Waddaya say? --Miborovsky 02:59, 8 Sep 2005 (CEST)
- Always good to see new people around here. Feel free to contribute in any way you'd like. I agree that the main page is kinda boring, but do not have the time to give it a proper overhaul myself, so feel free to suggest improvements to it – Rafiki (talk) (help)[[]] 10:02, 8 Sep 2005 (CEST)
Interwiki Links
Hi Rafiki--
would it be possible to set up the interwiki links table here? i think it'd come in very useful for linking to wikipedia (i'm working on the tech team historical links), to the forums, etc. i've found some documentation for doing this at metawiki, to save you the trouble :)

Vandalism
Hey Rafiki:
noticed an inordinate amount of vandalism lately. is it possible to block all new user creation for the time being to avoid people registering bogus accounts and vandalizing? i don't think we're getting too many new users that are contributing valid content right now, and blocking it for a while may help curb the vandals and ease the frustration level. --Ringworm 17:31, 4 Nov 2005 (CET)
- Way ahead of you; did it yesterday right after I saw the multiple accounts having had a go. I'm planning to upgrading the software in hopes of it being better able to handle spammers, hopefully sometime next week. – Rafiki (talk) (help)[[]] 08:48, 5 Nov 2005 (CET)
- To give a heads-up on how things are progressing; I've gotten VickyWiki upgraded, but there's a problem with thumbnails that I need to sort out first before I move on to upgrading HOI2Wiki too. The guys at Mediawiki have put together some anti-spam functionality that I'll make use of, and allthough it won't be fool-proof, it should be able to block some of the vandalism we've been seeing lately. – Rafiki (talk) (help)[[]] 23:33, 7 Nov 2005 (CET)
Swastika Mod
I know such is 'verboten,' but I did create one which alters the German flag as well as additional German graphics to those displaying swastikas or a National Socialist theme. I have a screenshot available which shows the basic appearance whilst playing the game. If it's something you don't want to associate with, that's fine, but I would like to make it available to those who want it.
-EvilHobo
- The way I see it, there are several concerns here. On one side, this wiki is meant to be of help in any way possible to the HOI2 community, preferring to err on the side of inclusion rather than on the side of exclusion. On the other hand, if Paradox were to disallow linking here from the forums due to the presence of a Swastika mod (as per forum rules over there), it would lessen the usefulness/availability of this wiki. I'm afraid the latter will have to weigh heavier than the former in this case. – Rafiki (talk) (help) 09:52, 11 January 2006 (CET)
- Ah, my apologies. I suppose I did fail to note that this would come under Paradox's policies. As long as this Wiki can stay active, it will probably be more of a benefit to the Hearts of Iron II community than would a swastika flag, but nevertheless, I do try to keep to historical accuracies, and shall keep it for myself or those who ask for it outside of the realms of this site. Delete my section in your Talk page if necessary. -EvilHobo
Swastika MOD
Since I know how tough it is to pursue the acceptance of a Swastika MOD, I decided to (try) back-up EvilHobo on this one. As a history teacher/student (currently both) I think it is very important not to ignore the past. In a game like this, where historical accuracy is pursued, it should not be allowed to leave out marks of National Socialism. In times like these, even the simplest form of censorship, should not be allowed to exist. Fact is that in this game, we do not play as Germany, but as Nazi Germany, which is a completely different nation. However, no sings of that are viewable other then the political stats.
I do understand why this was left out of HOI2. Some people are to narrow minded and wouldn't allow this game to see the light of day if it had the whole Swastika/National Socialism theme going on from the start.
Yet, please understand that this has nothing to do with neo-nazism or racist actions or ideas. This is purely intended to pursue a more historical accurate HOI2 and a feeling of authenticity.
Kind regards, Joeri
- I'm not going to start a speculation here about why Paradox didn't include swastikas in their game, whether it is due to not wanting to have that kind of symbolism in their game or if it is due to the fact that the game would be prohibited in Germany, which must be a major market for these kinds of games (I'd think).
- Neither do I think it is about narrow-mindedness; at least for me, it is about seeing it for what it is; a game. Personally, I can think of 100 things more important to my enjoyment of the game than exactly which variety of German flag they use, but if a swastika is what it takes for people to enjoy the game, then I have no problem with that.
-- If i could throw in my 2 pence, maybe evilhobo could have a link to his mod in his talk page? people would be able to find it that way, and it wouldn't really affect the policies of paradox either. while i don't wish to promote the things the swastika stood for, i also personally believe it is bad policy to "hide" the fact that it existed and what we've learned from that era. we do the same thing in america all the time- just because it's not politically correct to talk about certain things doesn't mean they don't (or never have) existed. :Ringworm 15:23, 12 January 2006 (CET)
- I've been told that just linking to it from here might well be viewed the same as if it had been hosted here, so my reasoning from further up still stands, I'm afraid.
- As for whether or not this is a Good(tm) or a Bad(tm) thing, I have to admit it isn't something I have spent much time thinking about, since it has so little impact on my own games. I do see the "free speech" implications and understand those that think there should be room for it, but I also think there are far better and more suitable places than this wiki to "make a stand" on this issue, if one wants to do that. – Rafiki (talk) (help) 12:37, 13 January 2006 (CET)
- I'm going to add my two cents if you guys don't mind... I am the owner of the HoI2 Flag Directory, and I won't allow a swastika on the flag directory. I disagree with censorship too, but Paradox has made a policy stand of not including the swastika because it is against the law in Germany. If you look at the HoI2 German version, they also changed the names of key Nazi characters like Hitler. I want my site to be available to as many fans of HoI2 as possible, and it's made very clear that if you provide a link to a swastika flag, your link will not be welcome on the Paradox site. I think that the HoI2 Wiki probably wants to be available to as many people as possible, so IMHO it would be more important to censor the swastika and respect Paradox's policy rather than make your site inaccessible. Uploading Images
Rafiki- Is the image upload disabled? i've tried both .jpg and .png, and both say the file is corrupt or invalid extension. i wanted to upload a few images for templates/stubs. thanks!
- Ringworm 15:59, 20 January 2006 (CET)
- It shouldn't be, but there might be something in the config; I'll look into it when I get access to the server; probably tomorrow. – Rafiki (talk) (help) 22:49, 23 January 2006 (CET)
Adding Wikipedia like tags?
Hey Rafiki, is it possible to add Wikipedia like tags -- just some simple one like Template:cleanup, and that sort of thing. I was thinking we could have a modified one that said something like "this article is out of date and does not represent the latest versions of the game."
I tried just pasting in the Wikicode, but as it failed to work, I figured there is something you have to do on the backend? Let me know, I think it would really help us improve quality here. :)
--Musides 01:51, 4 April 2008 (CEST)
- To do so, requires two things. One updating the site to the latest version of Wiki, two some template design additions (now standard is more current versions). If you want you can go to wikipedia (or any other wiki site and copy the template and add it to this site. Should work in most cases. Heer 03:02, 10 May 2008 (CEST)
- Have a look at Ringworm's page for more info Heer 03:07, 10 May 2008 (CEST)
- Most of the stuff I tried copying from Wikipedia did not work, probably for the reasons you cite: needing more updated code. Ringworm has acouple of basic templates, but I was hoping for something more advanced. When I first wrote that I had a better idea for some of the specific things I was hoping for, but things like a version control box, and some general bits about editing, etc. Anyway, it seems Rafiki is no longer active...--Musides 21:42, 20 May 2008 (CEST)
