Newbie Guide
hey rafiki- i see you changed compleat to complete for the newbie guide. that was intentional, as i was looking for that olde english look and definition: see http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=compleat :)
- Ringworm 21:35, 11 Jan 2005 (CET)
- My bad - article reverted, and one nuance added to my English vocabulary :)
- Rafiki 23:26, 11 Jan 2005 (CET)
- you know, i knew that was going to be changed when i wrote it originally. i'm not married to the idea of it, just thought it'd be clever.

handling doomsday changes? How?
What are we going to do about Doomsday on this HOI2 Wiki ??
Ignore it?
Add DD notes in specific places (such as research ahead penalty slightly changed in DD) ?
Set up separate Doomsday pages?
-Hansag note 23 May 2006, 02:15EST -
The game is basically the same. Major difference is the "Intelligence" options (including minister post for this line of work). Then there is some new units and Techs, but other than that small notes or pages divided into two with Vanila 1.0X and DD 1.0X?
- This problem is now solved with the version templates. --Musides 05:09, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Major changes to page layout (3/2008)
This page has had two major problems over the years:
(1) It is hard to tell what is out of date information, and what is current. There are entire sections that are correct for HOI2 version 1.0, but have absolutely nothing in common with Arm 1.2 (for example). We need to have a way of identifying what versions specific guides apply to.
(2) The organization of items has become a real mess. People have added great new sections, but under headings like "General FAQ", etc, which makes things cluttered.
I have attempted to fix both of these issues. Comments?
Also, I'm wondering if there is some kind of "text box" we can create, that can be pasted into every article, that tracks version compatibility?
--Musides 21:42, 25 March 2008 (CET)
- The changes look good :-) Out-of-date information is (in addition to missing information) the biggest problem of a wiki such as this. If you have some good ideas (like the textbox) for how such out-of-datedness can be better displayed, without cluttering the articles/overviews, by all means feel free to try them out – Rafiki (talk) (help) 10:29, 26 March 2008 (CET)
- Whew! I'm glad you like the changes Rafiki. I was going to contact you today if you hadn't noticed them. :) I'm going to continue working on stuff. :) --Musides 20:23, 26 March 2008 (CET)
Change name: Gameplay Guides?
Assorted guides isn't very clear, and everything here seems to be a gameplay guide. Also, some things here (like land doctrine) probably belong in the Reference section. What do you think? --Musides 21:01, 26 March 2008 (CET)
Doomsday, 1941 and 1944 scenarios?
Should Doomsday, 1941 and 1944 scenarios have their own sections on this page, or should they just be linked to from the main country pages? --C.N. 05:17, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- I think they should be a part of country guides, in the way that Germany does it, for example.--Musides 14:13, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Armageddon and The Abyss Scenarios Guides
I wonder, isn't Tannu Tuva missing in the list of Communist Powers? Or is it a bug in my game that Tannu Tuva is in the scenario? BluB 11:38, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it's missing. I just couldn't decide where to put it, since it's not a major and not part of the Commintern. --C.N. 12:41, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Micro Powers
Guys, I'm not convinced we should have dead links to micro powers. Does it make sense to have a dead link if no one is every going to create it? Micro powers have just about no strategy possible at all, and if no one has made a guide for these powers in the past 3 years, I'm not convinced that making dead links is going to encourage someone to do that. --Musides 05:08, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well, if we have links then someone sees that the page is missing and might be inspired to create it. Also, since we're supposed to put both country info and strategy on one page, I don't think those pages will be dead anymore when we start adding basic country info to them. --C.N. 18:58, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
land doctrines
Why was this moved out of the land guides section? I put it back in. I don't understand the reasoning for this. As far as I can tell, having something in 2 sections adds only one line of text. Am I wrong about this? The complete text is in one place but the header points to both places.
- "Land Doctrine" was moved to the Reference Guide. I'm not clear on why moving an item from one index page to another is somehow a bad thing? Land Doctrine is not a strategy guide, it is a basic document that describes the existing land doctrines. That is what the Reference section is for. Please explain why you think it needs to be on both guides as currently exists, or why this page is a better place? --Musides 22:58, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
- Because useful things are being hidden on the Reference page. It's easy to point players to one page )Guides( and then let them browse. When you start splitting up things based upon some distinction between basic documents and strategy, or some other editorial distinction such as stating that the Land Combat Guide was not in FAQ format, people either have to be told to look in 2 places or know that a document exists and can be found via Search. One place to browse for information, not two.
- Combat Events, Hotkeys, Reinforcements, Reorganization and Bases,Commander Traits, and Minister Traits could all be put in the Guides page so that people can find them easier. I personally did not know that you were moving stuff to the Reference page until I could not find the Land Combat FAQ, and I am now discovering that these other useful documents are in the Reference section rather than Guides.
- Browsing one page for useful information is much more important than telling people to guess on what other pages some useful information might be found. I'm an experienced Wiki user and advocate, yet I've guessed wrong now several times about where some information can be found. I knew that it existed, so I could find it, but newbies don't know what search terms to use or where to find basic information.
- And what's wrong with 2 places if this does not add hardly anything to the server load? Put stuff in Guides and let people browse there. If it's also useful in the reference page or some other place, put the link there too. Putting stuff in 2 places is better than restricting them to 1 place and asking people to guess where you can find it. I've guessed wrong a few times already.
