There are 4 religious groups in EU3 :

  • Christian (catholic, protestant, reformed, orthodox)
  • Muslim (sunni, shiite)
  • Eastern (buddhism, hinduism, confucianism, shinto)
  • Pagan (animism, shamanism)

Protestant and reformed religions are not available from the start : they slowly spread in Europe once the Reformation events fire in the early 16th

Each religion grants special bonus and penalties.

Each province has a base stability cost of 20 ducats.

Base success rate of missionaries : 30%

You can bribe Cardinals and become Papal Controller.

Each province has a base stability cost of 30 ducats.

  • +10% production efficency
  • +10% tax income
  • 1 extra colonists each year
  • 1 extra diplomats each year
  • 0.5 extra missionary each year

Base success rate of missionaries : 30%

Each province has a base stability cost of 30 ducats.

  • +10% trade efficiency
  • -10% tax income
  • 2 extra colonists each year
  • 1 extra diplomats each year
  • 0.5 extra missionary each year

Base success rate of missionaries : 27%

Each province has a base stability cost of 15 ducats.

  • 1 extra colonists each year
  • 1 extra missionary each year

Each province has a base stability cost of 20 ducats.

  • -20% tax income

Each province has a base stability cost of 15 ducats.

  • -20% tax income
  • +50% land morale

May be annexed even if not reduced to a 1-province country


[edit] In Nomine Religion

In the expansion In Nomine Religion has subtly changed. The religious slider system has been replaced. Instead there are 3 different types of religious tolerance.

  • State Religion (e.g Catholic)
  • Same Religious Group, but not State Religion (Heretics). (e.g Reformed or Protestant).
  • Other Religions (Heathens). (e.g Sunni).

Tolerance/Intolerance of different religious groups has a direct effect on provincial aspects such as rebellion risk, tax etc.

Missionaries: Missionaries also work slightly differently in In Nomine. Instead of the hit-or-miss method in NA, a missionary requires a yearly upkeep during the conversion process until the province is fully converted. The missionary upkeep is set via slider settings in the economic overview screen.

During the conversion process there is a 6% increase in provincial revolt risk.
