[edit] Eighty Years' War

You start with a disadvantage in troops, but you have 2 armies and the Spanish only have one. Use one of them to siege the Spanish and the other to recapture what the Spanish capture from you. Be sure that their transport ships don't reach you. After a while, peace can be made.

Note: In 1.3 the AI will split armies, making this strategy obsolete.
